Shift-work disorders, sleep apnea, and narcolepsy are just three of the disorders that rob a healthful night's sleep from thousands of people every year in the US and interfere with work productivity, career advancement, college studies, and family/social obligations. Our Sleep Medicine centers can help.
St. Lawrence Health System offers the only Sleep Medicine centers in the North Country headed by a physician who is board-certified in sleep medicine. Our Potsdam location offers four private bedrooms, and our Gouverneur location has two private rooms. Patients are encouraged to bring their own pillow and/or blanket to make them feel as comfortable as possible for their overnight visit. As appropriate, a family member may be able to stay over with the patient. Both locations have a separate Technician Room with sophisticated monitoring and audiovisual equipment operated by registered polysomnographic technologists.
Upon referral, your first visit typically involves diagnostic testing, with a second night-time visit scheduled for adjustments to treatment (such as CPAP titration) if needed. You are asked to arrive at the Sleep Medicine Center in the evening and will be discharged early the next morning.
A home-based study, as well as hospital-based, are available.
