Nurse Residency Program

Nurse Residency Program

In collaboration with Rochester Regional Health, St. Lawrence Health is proud to offer its new-to-practice nurses the opportunity to participate in the Vizient/AACN Nurse Residency Program™. This program helps transition new nurse residents into their clinical roles and build confidence. Using an evidence-based curriculum and final project, this program supports new-to-practice nurses as they successfully transition to competent nursing professionals.

Program Schedule/Curriculum

Once a month for one year, new nurse residents meet for an in-person, 4-hour seminar. Experienced nursing professionals facilitate each seminar, covering a variety of pertinent topics and hands-on learning experiences.

Through the Nurse Residency Program, new-to-practice nurses learn how to:

  • Improve critical-thinking and communication skills
  • Incorporate research-based evidence into practice
  • Implement conflict-management and delegation
  • Strengthen their professional commitment to nursing
  • Formulate an individual development plan

Curriculum includes:

  • Evidence-based practice and research methods
  • Communication
  • Diversity, Inclusion and Equity
  • Professional Roles and Quality Outcomes
  • Wellness and Self-care
