Immunology is the study of how your body protects itself against infectious diseases, and how your immune system works to keep you healthy. Our board-certified immunologists have extensive training in the diagnosis and treatment of primary immunodeficiency disorders. The Immunology Program through St. Lawrence Health provides compassionate, multidisciplinary care for patients of all ages who are struggling with infections or chronic immunodeficiencies.
In a healthy person, the immune system helps the body battle infection by rejecting and fighting foreign viruses and bacteria. If the immune system is defective, these defenses can fail, and the body can end up attacking itself.

During your initial consultation, your provider will take your detailed medical history, which will include questions about any relatives who may have an immune system disorder. You will also undergo a physical examination, as well as blood tests or prenatal tests which can be used to get an accurate diagnosis.
