OBGYN Services

From our Health Coach Program for those with chronic diseases, to support groups for illnesses that disproportionately affect women - like fibromyalgia and breast cancer - area women have a wide range of resources for managing their health.

Start with your primary care provider (PCP). A PCP can be a family physician, nurse practitioner, internal medicine physician, or physician assistant.

Some women prefer the specialized training in women's health issues offered by a Women's Health Nurse Practitioner (WHNP) Midwife (CNM), or OBGYN. These professionals can act as your PCP as well as your go-to for gynecologic surgeries, diagnosis, and treatment of pelvic floor disorders, vaginal or uterine prolapse, and a host of other disorders that only affect women.

Our OBGYN services include:

  • Gynecology
  • Contraception
  • Family planning
  • Obstetrics
  • Pelvic pain therapy and treatment for pelvic floor disorders
  • Sexual health
  • Young women’s gynecologic health

Starting a Family

Canton-Potsdam also houses The Birthplace Center, where a team of warm, yet professional birthing experts surround you and your new addition with the best environment to promote lasting health and loving bonding.

Learn about pregnancy and birthing care in this short video from Chairman of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Fertility Mazin Abdullah, MD.

The Birthplace offers many options for prenatal care, delivery--including Midwifery--post-partum care, and education. Our combination labor, delivery, recovery and postpartum rooms (LDRPs) offer families a spacious and comfortable area during the birthing experience. Options are offered for pain relief from support for natural childbirth with Jacuzzi tubs, showers, and birthing balls to pain medications and epidurals as needed. "Rooming In" is available for moms, dads, and babies. The experienced and compassionate staff are eager to assist you in creating the memorable birth you desire.

When you are ready to start a family, your women's health provider can monitor your progress, provide education and nutritional support, and discuss birth-pain options with you. Our Birthplace provides a warm, modern environment in which to welcome your newest family member and it is staffed by skilled and caring nurses. The Birthplace participates in the New York State Breastfeeding Quality Improvement in Hospitals program. A certified lactation specialist conducts workshops and is here to help you give your baby the strongest possible start. The Birthplace further provides education and connections to pediatricians to get your little one off to the best start in life.

Pelvic Floor Disorders

Painful periods and pain in the pelvis are not normal, and the specialized providers at St. Lawrence Health are here to help. Our Physical Rehabilitation team will work with you to individualize a physical therapy treatment plan focused on your female incontinence or pelvic pain condition.
